Standard form

A way of writing numbers as A × 10^n, where 1 ≤ A < 10 and n is an integer.

Positive power of 10

Used for numbers 10 or greater; n tells you how many places the decimal point moves right.

Negative power of 10

Used for numbers between 0 and 1; n is negative, showing how many places the point moves left.

Ordinary form

A number written out normally, without powers of 10, e.g. 45,000 instead of 4.5 × 10^4.
